Southwest1 and Berrinba Wetlands
Logan City Council purchased 120 hectares of neglected landscape in 2003. The site of a former Browns Plains’ sand-mine, much of the area was a infested with wild fauna and rouge plant life.
Neumann Contractors were commissioned by Logan City Council to undertake the rehabilitation and revegetation of the neglected landscape. Since, an environmental and enterprise precinct with adjacent recreations facilities including natural bush and wetlands was developed.
One of the key objectives of this project was to create a unique development which provided a high level of commercial facilities with and emphasis on environmental values. Retaining the ecological values of the site was essential and the provision of an area of superior community amenity and aesthetics was a must.
The area now includes lakes, wetlands, tributaries, ponds, remnant vegetation and provides major habitats for native frogs, waterbirds and large tree dwelling mammals.
The Southwest1 and Berrinba Wetlands Project won the 2008 Civil Construction Federation Earth Award for Excellence in Civil Construction.
